Internal Family Systems (IFS)

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a therapeutic approach that views each person as an interconnected web of protective and vulnerable parts, led by a core Self. This core Self is present in each of us, and it knows how to heal. Through working with these inner parts, we can help you to achieve greater clarity and wholeness.

  • IFS helps people to heal by accessing and healing protective and wounded inner parts. IFS increases both inner and outer connectedness by helping you to first access your core Self. Using this Self energy, we come to understand and heal your inner
parts. In session, this may look like a combination of “talk therapy”, somatic exercises, and active
imagination. Between sessions, you may find it helpful to journal or do “parts mapping”- creating a
visual representation of the parts you are getting to know.

  • IFS can be helpful for individuals who have experienced trauma, or who are struggling with
depression, anxiety, or substance use. It can improve general functioning and well-being.

IFS is also especially well-suited to individuals who are seeking
greater self-knowledge, personal development, and wholeness.
